The South Pole

These photos were made at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in the 1970s. At the time, I was a member of a University of California, Davis research team studying the energy balance at the polar surface and skylight polarization. We installed and supported the first general purpose computers under the geodesic dome there in 1975.

At this writing, the dome is almost covered with snow and abandoned. A new, larger, and more capable station stands nearby. See Bill Spindler's pages below for more details about that.
